Here are recent news about Amazon Buy Box’s into antitrust trouble:
California sues Amazon | September, 2022
Timeline:
Sept. 2022: Attorney General Bonta sued Amazon in the Superior Court of California.
The lawsuit basically focused on accusing Amazon penalizing sellers for listing products at the lower price on other selling channels—that if Amazon spots a product listed elsewhere cheaper, it will often remove the seller from the Buy Box on Amazon.
March 2023, Bonta secured a favorable court ruling, which blocked Amazon’s request that California’s lawsuit against the company be dismissed.
Trial in California’s case is currently set for 2026.
FTC sues Amazon | September, 2023
FTC along with 17 state attorneys sued Amazon for ‘a course of exclusionary conduct that prevents current competitors from growing and new competitors from emergin’. Read the FTC’s official news release here.
Trial is set Oct. 2026.
